This Herbal Coffee with Nettle is a gentle liver cleansing and healing drink with beneficial adaptogens. A delicious stinging nettle recipe, this drink gently detoxes and prepares our bodies for spring. This recipe is a warming and lovely homage to the process of cleansing rituals that spring brings each year.

On March 20th the Spring Equinox is approaching and depending on where you live the weather may be starting to warm up. Regardless of your weather, it is time to start planting the seeds for spring even if it begins inside. Much like we would germinate our seeds in preparation for spring, we shall do the same for preparing our bodies for spring.

Nettle Recipes for Spring Healing

Spring preparation doesn’t have to be anything intimidating or over the top. A few of my favorite tips are to start adding herbs, such as nettle, chamomile, dandelion, and red clover, to your weekly routine and recipes.

For example, you could simply add stinging nettle tea into your french press while steeping your morning herbal coffee. In spring the recommended organ to cleanse is the liver, as mentioned in my other spring detox blog post.

In this herbal coffee with nettle recipe, the nettles are the star of the show in a wonderfully calming, healing, and cleansing blend of herbs. While it’s true that stinging nettle initially stings, don’t worry! Once cooked they lose any stinging sensation.

Stinging nettle is a very nutritious food full of vitamins and minerals, and has a wide range of medicinal uses from kidney and bladder issues, to ease the symptoms of hay fever. It’s truly a wonderful herb to add to your spring diet. Learn more about stinging nettle here.

Spring Detox

Add detoxing, nourishing herbs to your routine to do the magical work of liver cleansing. While our bodies begin to warm as the season turns over, going to a gentle or vigorous yoga class to start working out the kinks in our bodies is another wonderful part of this process. Winter’s cold weather makes our bodies contract and welcomes in the heat, and warmth will start to slowly unwind our winter-chilled souls as spring returns. As the weather begins to warm, our bodies relax and unwind with warmth after a cold winter.

When spring comes, in a sense, we all feel like we are coming out of the dark, much like the metaphor of a plant being buried and sprouting up through the dirt. We may be in the darkness, just waiting for our time to meet the sun.

As some of you may know we are originally from the Midwest where the winters are extremely cold. By nature, even on the West Coast, we tend to hibernate, & bundle up during our rainy season.

I love sipping this herbal coffee recipe as the season transitions from winter to spring each year, even without the bone-cold winters I knew in the midwest. It warms, calms, and cleanses my mind and body, so I am ready to stretch out and see the sun when it returns!

Adaptogens for Herbal Coffee

My preferred herbal coffee alternative is RASA. I am an affiliate as they have beyond high standards for the quality of herbs and adaptogens. I’ve been enjoying a cup of one of their 3 blends daily in order to get all of my daily adaptogens in.

Adaptogens are herbs that help your body deal with stress levels, gut health, adrenals, and more. Theyare known for helping to adapt to all of life’s stressors and also boost immunity. Adaptogenic herbs have also been shown to help focus, reduce depression and anxiety, and give a sense of calm.

Once you get daily adaptogens you will start feeling the positive benefits right away! It’s so easy to add them to your daily routine when they are in your herbal coffee alternative. Perfect for waking up each morning.
